The Tornado grapplers, now with a 5-1 record and better than half through their conference season, edged Hastings 20-18 Friday night. The game was tied going into the 175 pound class with five decisions for each squad, when Chris Wagner pinned his opponent, turning the tide for Anoka. Other matmen who won their matches were: Bill Owen, 95 lbs., Bruce Adams, 112 lbs., Rod Wilson, 127 lbs., Ken Rost, 138 lbs., and Dale Meyers, 165 lbs.
Coach Ron Malcolm, whose only loss was to league-leader Alexander Ramsey, has had a good amount of shifting to do during the first part of his very successful season. While several positions have been virtual question marks because of inexperience, other boys like 103 pound Grant Nelson have found it hard to keep down to their weights. Grant is at present being replaced by Jerry Board who formerly wrestled in the 95 pound division.
Anoka met Columbia Heights Tuesday and tomorrow hosts an always-formidable White Bear Lake bunch. The B-Squaders match starts at 6:30 in the senior high gymnasium with the Varsity wrestling match set for 8 p.m. sharp. Admission is 25 cents for Students, 50 cents for adults.
